SDS builds the software housing associations and local authorities use to appraise, deliver and sell affordable homes. David Shelton founded the company in Surrey in 1994, and the simple Excel appraisal tool he started with has grown into a platform that manages the whole development programme.
Where it started
Every scheme starts with someone asking, can we build here. Answering it falls to a development team with a board to convince and a viability gap to close, and too much of the answer has always been the sums, eating the time meant for judgement.
SDS was founded in 1994 to move the sums into software, by someone who had run those appraisals himself and knew exactly where the hours went. ProVal followed four years later.
The job hasn't changed. Development teams still stand between a site and the people who need a home, and SDS exists so that analysis is never the reason a home goes unbuilt.

If a scheme carries social rent, affordable rent or shared ownership, it can be appraised, managed and sold on the platform.
