North Star Housing Group, based in Stockton-on-Tees, consists of Endeavour Housing Association and Teesdale Housing Association and is the parent body of the organisation. Both Endeavour and Teesdale have a strong local presence and provide housing and services for a range of needs across the region.

Since 1974 Endeavour has operated throughout the North East and owns around 2,000 properties. Their regeneration and building work ranges from small scale housing developments for the physically disabled to involvement in multi-partner urban renewal projects.

Teesdale Housing Association owns around 850 properties in South West Durham and provides affordable homes for rent in the predominantly rural area of Teesdale. With the provision of high quality, rural housing becoming increasingly scarce, this is a testing challenge.

North Star’s Head of New Business, Barrie Westbrook, met SDS at a demo of ProVal being held at Durham County Council. At the time, they used in-house spreadsheets for development appraisal. Barrie recognised the need for an externally validated and respected appraisal tool and a separate demonstration at North Star was arranged.

After a successful assessment period and trial, the system was installed and both the development and finance teams received full training.

ProVal is now utilised on all development schemes within the Group's programme.
